Statements

Statement by Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett at the 9546th meeting of the United Nations Security Council on Threats to International Peace and Security (Ukraine)

I thank Assistant Secretary-General Miroslav Jenca and Mr. Sweeney for their briefings.

Nine years ago, the Council adopted Resolution 2202, which called for the implementation of the Minsk Agreements, in the hopes that it would prevent us from reaching the point at which we now sadly stand. We meet today to again discuss the ongoing tragedy of the war in Ukraine, a war that has gone on for far too long.

We are saddened to hear of the reports of even more civilian deaths in the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine, including recently in Kherson, and the occupied territory of Luhansk.

I would like to thank USG Di Carlo for the information provided.

We value the assessments of the United Nations and welcome the Organisation’s continued monitoring of the situation.

My delegation is gravely concerned about the precarious security situation prevailing in the Middle East and the potential for a wider regional conflagration. Such a risk must concern us all.

Guyana condemns the attacks that resulted in the deaths of three US servicemen. We are concerned at reports of civilian losses in the response that has ensued.
