Madam President,

I am honored to speak on behalf of the A3+, namely Guyana, Mozambique, Sierra Leone and my own country, Algeria. Firstly, we extend our gratitude to Mr. Geir Pederson and Mr. Martin Griffiths for their insightful briefings and assure them of our continued support.

Statement by Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett at the UN Security Council Meeting on "Maintenance of Peace and Security of Ukraine"

I thank you, Secretary-General for your briefing and indeed for all that you do in trying to forge peace in our world. I wish to acknowledge the presence of the Foreign Minister of Ukraine and all other ministers and high-level officials at this meeting.

Statement by Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues Birkett, at United Nations Security Council meeting on “Situation in the Middle East, including the Palestinian question”

I thank Special Coordinator Wennesland and Secretary-General Lockyear for their sobering briefings in which they presented the grim realities on the ground. I thank you, Mr. Lockyear for your frankness even in the face of possible reprisals. We also offer condolences on the loss of the lives of your colleagues and we salute the bravery of those who continue to operate bringing service to Gaza in these very trying times.

Statement by Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett at the UN Security Council Briefing on the Security Council Mission to Colombia (7 to 11 February 2024)

Today’s meeting is convened for the co-leads of the Security Council Mission to Colombia, that is, Guyana, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, to share their observations and assessment of the mission which was undertaken from 7th to 11th February. 

I will now make a statement in my capacity as representative of Guyana, focusing on the meetings which I chaired.

  1. We take note of the report of the Secretary-General and thank the Special Representative of the Secretary-General Valentine Rugwabiza, and Head of MINUSCA, for her informative briefing on the situation in the Central African Republic (CAR) and for her proactive and effective leadership. 

 

Statement by Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett at the UN Security Council Briefing on “Threats to International Peace and Security caused by Terrorist Acts"

I would like to thank USG Voronkov and Ms. Gherman for their updates and acknowledge their efforts in the preparation of the report being considered today. I also thank the Secretary General of INTERPOL, Mr. Jürgen Stock for the insights provided. We recognize and appreciate INTERPOL’s important role in combating terrorism and its strong collaboration with the United Nations and Security Council.
