Mr. President,

Thank you for convening this meeting. I also wish to thank Director Lisa Doughten, USG Mr. Gilles Michaud, and Dr. Abby Stoddard of Humanitarian Outcomes for their comprehensive briefings. I also express Guyana’s immense gratitude to you, and through you your teams, for the dedication and service you continue to render in these challenging times.

Guyana also welcomes the Secretary-General’s recommendations, on measures to prevent and respond to attacks against humanitarian and UN personnel, and their premises and assets.

Madame President,

Thank you for organizing today’s briefing. I also thank Deputy Special Coordinator Hadi for his sobering briefing.

In the last week, this Council has met on three occasions to consider the situation in Gaza but there appears to be no points of hope that the sun is setting on this war.

Thank you, Madame President, for so swiftly facilitating the request to convene this meeting.

I have the honour to introduce this draft resolution on behalf of the ten elected Member States of the Security Council, namely Algeria, Ecuador, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Switzerland and my own country, Guyana.

I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the A3+, namely Algeria, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, and my own country, Guyana.

We welcome the opportunity to discuss the Security Council’s support to Haiti and our collective response to the government’s request for assistance in tackling spiralling armed gang violence in the country.

Thank you, President,

I thank USG Di Carlo for the update and welcome the participation of His Excellency Sybiha Andrii, Minister of Foreign Minister of Ukraine, in today’s meeting.

President,

We meet today for yet another meeting on the conflict in Ukraine. This time we are reminded that it is 1000 days since the war began. Guyana deeply regrets that for every additional day of this war, innocent lives continue to be lost.
