President,

I thank the President of the Mechanism, Judge Graciela Gatti Santana, and Chief Prosecutor Serge Brammertz for their briefings and welcome the participation of the representatives of Serbia, Rwanda and Bosnia and Herzegovina in today’s meeting.

At the outset, I reiterate Guyana’s support for the work of the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in carrying out essential residual functions of the International Criminal Tribunal for Rwanda and the International Tribunal for the Former Yugoslavia.

Madam President,

I have the honour to deliver this statement on behalf of the members of the A3+, namely Algeria, Guyana, Mozambique, and my own country, Sierra Leone.

We thank Ms. Bintou Keita, the Special Representative of the Secretary-General in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and head of MONUSCO, for her insightful briefing and exemplary leadership of the Mission.

We take note of the contribution of Ms. Passy Mubalama, Founder of the Action and Development Initiative for the Protection of Women and Children (AIDPROFEN)

Thank you, Mr. Chair,

I would like to thank the President of Guatemala, His Excellency, Bernardo Arévalo, for his comprehensive update on the transformative reform agenda of his administration. I also thank Mr. Diaz for his presentation and welcome the positive outlook given on the potential of Guatemala. Appreciation also to Ms. Zelaya for her remarks.

Mr. President,

I have the honour to deliver this joint statement on behalf of the A3+, namely: Guyana, Mozambique, Sierra Leone, and my own country, Algeria.

We thank Ms. Izumi Nakamitsu, High Representative for Disarmament Affairs for the briefing and we listened carefully to the representative of the Civil Society. We welcome the participation in this meeting of the representatives of the Syrian Arab Republic, the Islamic Republic of Iran and Türkiye.

Statement delivered by Ms. Neishanta Benn, Minister Counsellor, Permanent Mission of Guyana to the United Nations, during the United Nations Security Council briefing on Maintenance of Peace and Security of Ukraine

Thank you, President,

We commend the United Kingdom for the swiftness with which they responded to the request from Ukraine to discuss recent escalations in the ongoing conflict between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.

We welcome the Council’s determination to keep this matter at the top of its agenda and hope that our deliberations today will encourage more deliberate steps toward de-escalation and resolving the conflict peacefully.
