Former 'incoming five' members of the Security Council host reception to mark commencement of Security Council membership

Today, Algeria, Guyana, South Korea, Sierra Leone and Slovenia, formerly 'the incoming five' members of the Security Council, hosted a reception for delegates of UN Member States.

Her Excellency Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the UN delivered remarks on behalf of her colleagues and thanked the delegates for their support. The five elected members pledged to strengthen the role of the Elected 10 (E10) and to work collaboratively with the E10, permanent members and the wider UN in carrying out their mandate.

Women, Peace and Security Shared Commitments Press Stakeout - UNSC briefing on the situation in Colombia

1. We, the eleven Security Council signatories of the Statement of Shared Commitments for the principles of Women, Peace, and Security — Ecuador, Guyana, Japan, Malta, the Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone, Slovenia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, the United States, and my own country France — have come together to express our full support for peace in Colombia and for the role women play in it.

2. We would like to emphasize four key aspects.

Joint Stake In - Climate Peace and Security West Africa and the Sahel Region / UNOWAS

Today, Guyana, France, Japan, Malta, Mozambique, The Republic of Korea, Slovenia, Switzerland, the United Kingdom, and the United States of America, the other Security Council Members who have endorsed the Joint Pledges related to Climate, Peace and Security, delivered a joint statement during a press stake-in on climate and security in West Africa and the Sahel Region.

Guyana joins the United Nations Security Council as an elected member for a two-year term 2024-2025

Today, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations, Her Excellency Ambassador Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, installed the Guyana flag alongside those of other Security Council members outside the Council chambers. Also participating in the simple ceremony were the other newly elected members, Algeria, Republic of Korea, Sierra Leone and Slovenia.

The Honourable Hugh Hilton Todd, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, today received a courtesy call from Her Excellency Ms. Liselle Blankendal, Ambassador-designate of Suriname to Guyana.

During the meeting the two sides discussed efforts to advance the Strategic Dialogue and Co-operation Platform (SDCP), which was signed in November 2020.
