Statement by H.E. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations, at Security Council meeting on "Maintenance of peace and security of Ukraine"

Thank you, President

I thank Acting Under-Secretary-General Joyce Msuya for the update provided and welcome the participation of the representatives of Ukraine.

We note with alarm the recent escalation in hostilities since the Council's last briefing on Ukraine. The past two weeks, in particular, have seen harrowing reports of multiple civilian casualties across several regions in Ukraine.

I thank Director Ebo for the briefing and recognize the presence of the Permanent Representative of Mali in today’s meeting.

 Guyana joins fellow Council members in expressing grave concern about the devastating impacts of the ongoing conflict and the dire humanitarian situation that has arisen in Ukraine as a result of the hostilities.   

Statement of Position delivered by H.E. Carolyn Rodrigues-Birkett, Permanent Representative of Guyana to the United Nations, Following the Adoption of the Resolution Renewing the Mandate of the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL)

Thank you, Mr. President, 

Guyana welcomes the adoption of this resolution which ensures that the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) will be able to continue its critical work through August 2025.

We wish to thank France for their constructive efforts during the course of the negotiations to consider the views of the host state, Lebanon, and all Council members.
